Reduction in cane crop due to dry spell

The Fiji Sugar Corporation’s target of two million tonnes of cane for this year’s crushing season is expected to fall short by atleast 300,000 tonnes.

Chief Operating Officer, Navin Chandra, says the prolonged dry spell has affected the production.

Chandra says by the time the Labasa Sugar Mill ends crushing season on 19th the three major sugar mills would have crushed little over 1.6 million tonnes.

He says efforts are underway to improve the output for the next crushing seaso.
