Record sugar production expected

Although the Fiji Sugar Corporation is still working out the final figures for the 2015 crushing season, it is expected that the Corporation will make a record sugar production for the season.

The 2015 crushing season officially ended early this week with the Lautoka Sugar Mill becoming the last sugar mill to end the crushing season.

The FSC executive Chair Abdul Khan says while he is not in a position to give full detail however Khan says the total sugar production could be in the vicinity of 200,000 to 221,000 tonnes.

The current total cane crushed estimate stands at around 1.85 million tonnes according to Khan.

Khan says the average T C T S or tonne of cane per tonne of sugar ratio was 8.3 during the crushing season.
