It’s important that we fully recognize the importance of Arts and Culture in the development of all Fijians.

ITaukei Affairs Permanent Secretary, Naipote Katonitabua says we should double our efforts in ensuring Melanesian arts, culture and traditional skills are protected for the future generation.

Katonitabua says western influence is visible nowadays and it’s slowly taking away a few practices left behind by our ancestors.

“We are living in an era where our traditions and culture are faced with rocky circumstances and we need to stand firm like the Vesi tree to germinate through rocks and build a hull that we may sail through to a prosperous and better Fiji."

Speaking at the launch of the Katonimana publication at the Fiji Museum yesterday, the PS also revealed the 80 member delegation from various art forms who will be representing Fiji to the 6th Melanesian Arts Festival in the Solomon Islands next month.
