Digital technology is an increasingly important tool in creating opportunities for a diversity of voices to be heard and shared.

This week, the Fiji Library Association celebrated with a week- long event focusing on the theme “Literacy and Skill Development”.

President of the Association, Ela Qica says some youths in Fiji are skilled and have the ability to do anything even use the internet however there is a need to ensure literacy skills are shared among every Fijian.

“This is also for the community who needs to know because we have some community members who also use the technology, like You tube applications “How To” women coming up with how to do decorations, they’ve begun cooking classes and they are getting employment out of this”

September 8th was marked by UNESCO as “International Literacy Day” in which the relevant stakeholders raise awareness globally on the issues surrounding adult and child literacy.
