REACH hands over water tanks to Wainiveli settlement

February 6, 2019 8:31 am

It was a day of celebration for the people of Wainiveli Settlement in Levuka when they received new water tanks.

Assistant Minister for Women, Veena Bhatnagar handed over two 500 liter tanks.

The hand-over was a result of the REACH Project’s community based services last year in Ovalau, whereby the need to address the issue of little access to clean water in the community was identified and a commitment was made to do so by providing them with water tanks.

While speaking at the official handing over ceremony, Bhatnagar stated that the effects of having no, or little access to safe drinking water and sanitation is detrimental.

She says, the most adversely affected, happen to be our children which is unacceptable.

The assistance the Assistant Minister says will be life changing for the individual families and would also complement the efforts of the Fijian Government in providing access to clean and safe drinking water in the rural areas.

Lovoni village chief, Ratu Petero Rogoyawa conveyed his appreciation for the assistance which he says will enable an improved and more fulfilling life for his villagers.

Meanwhile, a 5000 liter water tank is expected to be provided to the community in the near future.
