Rarawai Mill starts crushing

July 17, 2018 4:37 am

The Rarawai Mill officially started crushing today.

Speaking during the tipping of the first cane in Ba, Minister for Infrastructure, Parveen Bala commended the effort and resilience put in by the Rarawai Mill team.

Bala says that the mill was hit by Tropical Cyclones Keni and Josie earlier this year and the mill was submerged in water, which brought with it massive amounts of silt and debris.

“Despite this, Rarawai Mill is expected to crush a 595,000 tonnes of cane this season, 468,000 from within the Rarawai sectors and a further 127,000 tonnes from Penang sectors.”

The Minister adds that the Fiji Sugar Corporation has also invested in refurbishing the mill.

He also says repairs and maintenance of both its 5 MW and 4 MW turbo generators was carried out this year.
