Rakiraki flood damage assessment

The Rakiraki Rural Advisory Council will be preparing a report on the extent of damage caused during the recent heavy rain that resulted into flash flooding.

Chair, Jayant Maharaj, says they believe there has been minimal damage to cane and other crops.

Maharaj says preliminary reports show that only those farms were damaged that are situated near the river banks and creeks.

He says in some areas the flood has caused a lot of damage to the roads. e areas of Rakiraki where roads have been affected-

Maharaj says the Fiji Roads Authority has already begun it’s inspection.
