Twenty-seven households in Matamaivere Village in Namara, Tailevu, about 19 kilometres from Nausori Town, now have a safer source of water supply.
The Water Authority has installed Rain Water Harvesting systems in the village.
Chief Operating Officer, Samanmal Ekanayake, says as part of the $98,100 project twenty sets of 5,200litre water tanks, roof catchment, gutters, and downpipes have been installed.
A ten thousand-litre tank and guttering were also installed at the village church.
WAF crew members with the assistance of the villagers, also repaired a damaged concrete water tank.
Roko Tui Tailevu, Iliesa Delasau, says they’re grateful to the assistance given by the Government through WAF.
“Especially the innocent one’s – the women and the children, because we have been facing problems for almost five decades now. It required a lot of sacrifice from the people to carry water and walk a long distance. But now they will be able to get water at their door steps – what a time.”
Delasau says 147 people in his village will benefit from this project.
