Rabuka to leave for NZ tomorrow

March 5, 2019 5:16 pm

Opposition and SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed in the last hour that he has received the letter of approval and he will be leaving for New Zealand tomorrow.

Rabuka was supposed to fly out this morning, however he was stopped at the Nadi Airport as Immigration officials wanted a letter of approval from the court to confirm that his travel ban has been lifted.

As a result, Rabuka had to re-schedule his travel plans.

“I am booked on air New Zealand than I found out I don’t have the money to pay for another ticket, so I will use my Fiji Airways ticket if I can on a later flight either tonight or tomorrow morning.”

Rabuka will be attending the funeral of late Brigadier Ian Thorpe – a former RFMF Commander from 1979 to1982.

According to Rabuka this was a technical blunder as no authority was issued by the court to lift the travel ban.

A travel ban was imposed on Rabuka earlier this year after he was alleged to have interfered with a FICAC witness.

The case was later dismissed.
