Rabuka stopped at Nadi Airport

March 5, 2019 3:30 pm

Opposition and SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka has been stopped from travelling at the Nadi Airport this morning.

It’s believed Rabuka was supposed to leave for New Zealand to attend the funeral of the late Brigadier Ian Thorpe – a former RFMF Commander from 1979 to1982.

Speaking to FBC News, Rabuka says it was a technical blunder.

He says when his case was dismissed in court, no authority to lift the travel ban was issued.

“Following on from that, i should have had my passport released to me and the travel ban which was part of the bail conditions also lifted that did not happen immediately and did not expect to travel this early”

According to Rabuka, immigration officials are now trying to secure a letter from the Suva Magistrates Court and he has missed the flight that he was earlier booked on.

Rabuka says he was booked on another flight and it’s an hour left for departure however he is still waiting for the clearance letter.

Director Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa says Rabuka’s lawyers are working on the issue.
