Rabuka confirms Urai as provisional candidate

July 5, 2018 11:30 pm

SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed to FBC News that Unionist Daniel Urai is a confirmed provisional candidate for the party.

This confirmation contradicts a statement earlier made by Party general secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi who told Fiji Sun that Urai’s name should not have been on the list of provisional candidates that was released during their AGM over the weekend.

Rabuka says Urai applied for a ticket but the onus is on him to resign from his current position as President of the Fiji Trades Union Congress.

Rabuka says Urai will have to weigh his options on whether he wants to join politics or continue as a Unionist.

“If the burden of his responsibility in the trade union is more then he can afford to give up then he should continue in that. But at the moment we can confirm that he has been interviewed. So for now he is a provisional candidate provided he releases himself from other obligations.”

Meanwhile, Urai was barred to stand in the 2014 general elections over some legal matters.
