The Fiji Red Cross Society will soon include Rabi Island in its membership.

Society Director General Filipe Nainoca says they have been working with the Rabi community testing all their programs in various villages.

Nainoca says they are also looking to broaden their reach within Fiji as well.

“Islands that are remote carry special challenges and what we believe is that we have designed a methodology, something that we have learned in Rabi and we are taking this to Rotuma that will enable us to move to the maritime zones. This includes Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu places where the Red Cross is not present.”

Nainoca says the Red Cross centre in Rotuma has been inactive since 2010 and work is underway to make it operational again.

He was speaking at the Fiji Red Cross morning tea fundraiser at the Sea Salt Restaurant in Suva.

The Fiji Red Cross Society’s vision is to build safe, healthy and resilient communities by working in humanitarian service and advocacy and currently has 15 branches across Fiji including Rotuma.
