Quick response averts major disaster in Nabua

Quick action by fire fighters stopped a major disaster from happening at Nabua, IN Suva this morning.

Friendly Restaurant -which is situated next to a popular kava shop caught fire at around 7am.

NFA Chief Executive Officer John O’Connor says when they arrived at the scene, the restaurant was engulfed with flames and there was a risk of the fire spreading to shops adjacent to the restaurant.

“Oh yeah it would have been a big fire, note that attached to the building, while business while at the bottom, there was residential flats at the top, and everybody was panicking and it was important to us to take out the fire.

Five fire trucks attended to the emergency call.

“It was very important for us in terms of our fighting strategy whenever high risk areas are involved we send all the available resources that are available to us."

It is believed the fire started in the kitchen.

An investigation by NFA and police is underway
