Qarase case continues

July 12, 2012 1:00 am

Cicia Plantation Co-operative chairman Isireli Mokunitulevu gave evidence in the FICAC against Laisenia Qarase case at the Suva High Court this morning.

Maca Lutunauga reports.

Mokunitulevu told the court that since the establishment of the Cicia Plantation Co-operative, he knew there were two financial advisors.
They were former minister for agriculture the late Charles Walker and Laisenia Qarase. However he did not know the exact day of the appointments.
He also explained that Qarase was advising them on how to run the copra plantation, buying shares with Fijian Holdings Limited, Unit Trust and the most recent one, Bank of the South Pacific. When asked whether he could recall what Qarase said to them about buying shares with FHL, Mokunituilevu says he couldn’t. He recalled however that Qarase explained that they could loan from Fiji development Bank to buy shares while he was the managing director of FDB. The trial continues this afternoon with another FICAC witness expected to take the stand.
