Public urged to take precaution

The National Disaster Management Office is urging the public to keep listening to the radio and be on alert in light of the tropical depression TD02F that is currently affecting the Fiji Group.

Director National Disaster Management, Akapusi Tuifagalele says that they are currently monitoring the situation.

The four Divisional Emergency operation Centres under the leadership of the Divisional Commissioners have been notified of the situation and are preparing the Divisional emergency operation centres should the situation worsen.

Tuifagalele is also pleading with motorists and all road users to take precautionary measures while on the road.

Adding that for those that live near rivers and streams and in low lying areas, you are requested to be more vigilant.

As of 8.30am this morning, the Nadi Weather office has issued a strong wind warning for all Fiji Waters.

A Tropical Depression TD02F was analysed near 12.3S 177.7E or about 75km east-northeast of Rotuma. It is anticipated to gradually move south-westward. The associated cloud bands are expected to affect Fiji till Saturday.
