Public urged to fight suicide

It’s the duty of individuals in every community to help reduce suicide rates says a member of the National Committee on the Prevention of Suicides.

Selina Kuruleca, a private practicing psychotherapist has described as alarming, the number of people that have killed themselves or tried to kill themselves.

Figures released by the Fiji Police Force show that 105 people took their own lives between January and November this year compared to 36 for the same period last year.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says most cases are a result of a romantic disputes or family problems.

Naisoro has echoed calls made by Kuruleca, that people, especially families must be more compassionate and recognise when someone is hurting and provide them with all the support they need.
