Public submissions called for Code of Conduct Bill

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights meet on the Code of Conduct Bill.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights will today hear public submissions on the Code of Conduct Bill.

Scheduled today, the Land Transport Authority, the Auditor General and the National Federation Party are expected to submit their presentations.

The Code of Conduct Bill which is the Bill 33 of 2018 sets out to establish an Accountability and Transparency Commission to ensure that all public office holders are held accountable.

It’s understood the Bill will set out provisions under which public office-holders will have to declare their financials yearly which is expected to be accessible to members of the public.

The Bill relates to section 149 of the Fijian Constitution

The Code of Conduct Bill was tabled in Parliament last month after first been put before the house in 2016.
