Public raise concerns at bus fare review consultation

November 5, 2017 5:27 pm

The concerns brought forward during the face-to-fare consultations to the Independent Bus Fare Review Committee are of substance.

Committee Chair, Joel Abraham says all submissions received so far are valid and shows the public’s well-informed knowledge of the bus industry.

“We find that people are quite informed, they know what they are taking about fuel prices, cost of operations, they are simply not just turning up and saying to reduce the fare – but the consistent message from the public is that they would like to see a reduction, improvement in service and the bus industry to improve over the years.”

Abraham says the general concerns bus-fare pricing, conditions of buses and service delivery topped discussions at the consultations.

He adds all the issues raised by the public in the Western and Northern divisions over the last week will be considered when finalizing the review.

The Bus Fare review committee wrapped up its consultation in the Northern Division over the weekend.

People in Suva can give their submissions at the Sukuna Park today from mid-day to 2pm and 5pm this afternoon until 7pm after which the Committee moves to Nasinu on tomorrow.

The final consultation will be held at Nausori’s Syria Park on Wednesday.
