Public consultations for the formulation of Fiji’s five year and twenty year development plans got underway in the Central and Western Division this morning.
FBC News visited some of the consultation areas in Suva and found consultative engagements between the public and the Finance Ministry through the Department of Strategic Planning and National Development undertaking nationwide consultations.
The development plan will set out medium and long term goals, strategies and programmes for growth and sustainable development to benefit all Fijians.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the consultations are also open to small non-governmental organizations including community groups and civil society.
‘’It will take place for at least a month or so, a month and a half then we’ll come back and collaborate everything together and come out with a five year development plan plus a 20 year plan. We need to have a visionary plan and a specific short to medium term plan so when we go and talk to development partners and multilateral organizations we can say look guys we want this type of funding’’.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend these consultations.
The schedule of meetings will be updated on a weekly basis in the dailies.
