Public advised to be more attentive on roads

February 18, 2018 12:50 am

Listening to loud music while wearing headphones and using mobile phones while walking on the road is becoming a serious concern.

This comes after a 25-year-old man was hit by a bus at the Rewa Dairy Bridge outside Suva earlier this week.

Police investigation revealed the victim did not hear the bus as he was listening to music which had affected his concentration.

This trend has also been picked up by traffic officers while on patrol.

The public is advised to realize that safety is compromised when listening to loud music and fidgeting with a mobile phone while walking along busy roads as their concentration will not be on the movement of vehicles.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and pedestrians need to play their part by being vigilant and alert to other road users.
