Public Accounts Committee continues with reports

Officials from the ministries of Land, Public Enterprises and Infrastructure appeared before the committee to clarify issues highlighted in the Auditor General’s report dating back to 2007.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Industry Trade and Public Enterprise Shaheen Ali says, even though they were not in the Ministry at that time, they had done their best to answer the questions posed to them regarding the accounts.

He also expressed the Ministries’ plans to continue to make improvements to the industry going forward.

“We have a trade Policy also which will be launched by the Prime Minister and that is where we have clearly articulated as to how we can consolidate in terms of investment and trade and to ensure that Fiji continues on this phenomenal growth path that is being achieved at the rate of 4 to 5 percent growth on a yearly basis.”

Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure Commander Francis Kean outlined a number of changes that has been made to improve existing regulations.

Commander Kean said he was pleased to note that a lot has been done to improve upon the major issues of Good Governance and Transparency within his Ministry.

“We’ve done a lot of training over the last three years particular this year and I am very thankful for the support of the office of the Auditor General that has been rendered to our Ministry in assisting us in this training.”

The Committee is continuing to sift through the Auditor General’s reports from 2007 to date.
