Psychological help is important

February 26, 2016 1:14 am

Psychological assistance and support is an aspect that people forget when rebuilding their lives especially after such a devastating event like Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Lifeline Fiji Executive Director, Archana Mani, says their new toll free service provides people with just that.

Mani says children as well and adults can experience emotional trauma and distress during extreme events like these and often do not realise they need help.

“If parents are seeing that their children are being affected by a natural disaster and there are some changes in behavior the first thing to do is sit them down and talk to them about it. This is particularly if they have moved away from their normal home setting and gone out to live in a communal way, you lose touch with your own children and partners – so it is important that you have that family time as well.”

Mani reassures that, while this service is new in Fiji, information given is strictly confidential.
