The Public Service Commission will focus on helping the government bring in the right people for the civil service.

PSC Chair Vishnu Mohan says following their first meeting in Suva yesterday, the Commission will concentrate on getting the right people for the right job.

The PSC has decided that the contracts of current Permanent Secretaries will be extended for another 6 months as their contracts expire at the end of this month.

Mohan says this will give them enough time to go through the processes involved in choosing the suitable person.

“We’re already in the middle of June and you know the time it takes the processes to advertise and allow time for people to apply then go through a screening process shortlist and then do the interviews. We all have got our own day jobs what we’re trying to do here is help the government raise the bar, the public sector how do you make the public sector efficient, focused, robust so that’s what will eventually lead and contribute to the economic growth of the country and that’s the focus.”

The next meeting is expected to be held in six weeks.
