PSC does not discipline civil servants

December 9, 2016 12:05 am

Permanent Secretaries in all government ministries are responsible for disciplinary proceedings against civil servants.

Public Service Commission member Dr. Akinisi Kedrayate says in most instances cases which did come to the Commission were minor transgressions.

“Any civil servant found in breach would go through their own ministry – before they used to come to us, the Public Service Commission and so we would look at it case by case submitted by each ministry for minor details that could be handled at the ministry itself.”

Dr. Kedreyate was speaking at a parliamentary committee meeting in Suva this week.

As part of the civil service reform, the PSC is now only responsible for Permanent Secretaries who have been given powers to institute disciplinary proceedings against public servants.
