Prostate cancer accounts for close to 54 percent of cancers in Fiji found in men.

Fiji Cancer Society Representative, Kali Turagaiviu says the majority of these cases reported to the Health ministry are in their terminal stages.

Turagaiviu says the killer disease needs to be addressed in its early stages.

”The Fiji Cancer Society usually during event, we always bring along a survivor to come and tell you or to come and put a human face to the things that’s not just figures, numbers and statistics, so this terrible disease is a very disruptive disease. It not only affects the person who has been diagnosed with cancer but the whole family unit.”

The Fiji Cancer Society together with the Health ministry is working to raise awareness on all cancers and advocating for early screenings.

Cancer is responsible for 10 percent of deaths in Fiji.
