Prosecution witness takes stand in alleged manslaughter case

Second prosecution witness Jone Leweni took the stand today at the Suva High Court in an alleged manslaughter case.

It’s alleged that Sanaila Noke and Bai Duruimata punched 23-year-old Josefa Rokotuitavoki on July 5th, 2016 which resulted in his death.

The two have been charged with one count each of manslaughter.

Leweni told the court that he allegedly saw Sanaila Noke punch Josefa Rokotuitavoki.

Defence Counsel representing Noke asked the witness if he had clearly seen his client punch and stomp Rokotuitavoki.

Leweni replied saying yes.

He also told the court that he had given his statement to police in which he had clearly mentioned what he had seen.

Rokotuitavoki was allegedly punched to death at a nightclub in Nausori in 2016.

The trial continues.
