Prorogation of Parliament

Parliament has been prorogued marking the end of the first parliamentary session since the elections.

Secretary General to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua told FBC news that effectively this week, prorogation marks the end of a Parliament calendar.

All tasks are carried forward to another new year of Parliament, which begins next week on Monday, 14th September, 2015.

On the new Parliament calendar for the remainder of this year, there’s a one week sitting in September and a one day sitting in October for Presidential nominations.

Rounding out 2015, November 6th is scheduled for the national budget announcement with a week of budget debate a fortnight later.

In 2016, parliament sittings will be one week affairs scheduled in February, April, June and August.
