The Eastern Mini Bus Association has submitted their proposal to the Land Transport Authority to increase minibus fares.
President Naresh Chand claims there has been no increase in minibus fares in the last 19 years.
Chand says they deserve fare increase and hopes to meet with the LTA Chief Executive soon.
“We deserve $2 fare because since the year 2000 when minibus legalized since than as of today there is no increase in fare. So basically what I am trying to say that that time the diesel price was 62 cents per liter and the tire was between $60 to $90 and if you can see how the diesel price has increased by three fold and even the tire and the spare part price has also gone up.”
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Jone Usamate had earlier confirmed that the Land Transport Authority is now re-looking at the minibus fare regulation.
