The Fiji Roads Authority has clarified, landowners and property owners are responsible to construct and maintain their own driveways.

The FRA has received a number of complaints and queries from the public regarding private driveways and drains.

Maintenance Works Manager Aram Goes says there is a process where any member of the public carrying out work on their driveway in the road corridor can do so under permit with conditions set by the FRA.

Goes says these conditions are to ensure the construction meets the required standards.

He says the FRA has observed unsuitable construction materials and inadequate driveway pipe sizes are being used, as well as improper rubbish disposal in roadside drains.
