Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has made it clear that allegations on some farmers that weren’t able to supply their cane from Rakiraki’s Penang Mill to Ba’s Rarawai mill were lies.

Bainimarama says the government covered for the entire cost of the transfer of cane to the Rarawai Mill and all farmers have been accounted for.

Bainimarama revealed the government also paid for all the administrative cost of the Sugar Cane Growers Council.

“And as we’ve promised we covered the entire cost of all cane that was transferred from the Penang Mill area to the Rarawai Mill, so no farmer wasn’t able to supply their cane despite some very bold and false claims from some quarters.”

Bainimarama says the Sugar Ministry is very responsive to farmer’s complaints with the establishment of toll free lines.

The Prime Minister also highlighted farmers should know their welfare is paramount for the growth of the industry.
