Previous civil service appointments criticised

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says some public office holders do not have the qualification to hold their jobs.

Sayed-Khaiyum made this revelation while speaking at a Youth Dialogue workshop in Suva.

“There are also people who are holding public office in Fiji today is because they got it there not because they deserved it, not because it is based on merit but because of who they knew, what religion they belong to, what ethnicity they belong to and who they knew within the system.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says this was evident in the Ministry of Justice when they were appointed back in 2007.

However, they also found out the same issue with the other Ministries where women were forced to sleep with superiors to save their job.

Sayed-Khaiyum says in many cases civil servants are not performing well because of lack of training and experience.
