President urges Health Professionals to tackle NCDs head on

President – Major General retired – Jioji Konrote is urging health professionals to walk the talk when it comes to fighting Non Communicable Diseases.

Addressing staff and students at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science, he made several suggestions for action such as declaring a Tobacco Free Work Place and a ban on unhealthy food at all health facilities.

“I appeal to you for us to lead by example. I cannot imagine encouraging the public to make the right dietary choices and exercise daily if you and I do not do these ourselves.”

Fiji National University – Vice Chancellor Ikbal Jannif who’s been a diabetic for the last 15 years shares the sentiment.

“FNU is now establishing some wellness parks, the first one will be established at the College of Engineering, Sciences and Technology at the Derrick campus."

According to the W.H.O, 2 people are amputated io Fiji everyday because of diabetes.
