President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote believes nurturing the talents and potential of inmates is important for rehabilitation.

He opened the Christmas Vakaviti Art Exhibition for the Fiji Corrections Service.

President Konrote highlighted that in order to qualify for rehabilitation, inmates will have to meet certain criteria for acceptance, participation and achievement.

He adds the programme is designed to help inmates become self-disciplined, building character and prospects for a better future.

Acceptance of their artwork according to the President, would boost their morale, pride and sense of belonging – helping discard the stigma of being an inmate.

Sixty per cent of the proceeds collected from the paintings and artworks are given to the artists.
