President champions NCD fight on walk with Police

The President, His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote as Fiji’s champion for fight to reduce Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and as Commander in Chief today urged police officers to make wise lifestyle choices.

Addressing the Commissioner of Police and officers after an early morning walk from the Sawani Community Post up to the Colo-i-Suva Community Post, the President said police officers owed it to the nation to be fit and healthy.

“We are one of the few organizations and being members of the disciplined forces that are paid by taxpayers to keep fit and when we are not fit, we are not earning our pay fairly because they put their trust and faith in you and I to maintain peace and law and order”.

The President added that too many police officers, soldiers, naval officers and civil servants are dying young because of their lifestyle choices.

This he says can be prevented by adopting healthier lifestyle choices.

Major-General Konrote said with 2018 being an important year for the nation, a lot will be asked of those maintaining law and order.

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the President was an inspiration to the Force and an example of what living a healthy lifestyle can achieve.
