Prepare for more delays

May 4, 2018 1:09 am

Commuters traveling between the Suva-Nausori corridor must allow extra time for travel and be prepared for delays.

This as the Fiji Roads Authority is carrying out upgrade between the Laqere to Nakasi stretch.

Due to the work the four lane has been reduced to two.

Those travelling on this stretch will find traffic from a little before Nakasi and it finishes close to Nasinu.

In a previous interview, FRA chief executive, Jonathan Moore said the delay on road work on Kings Road is due to the deteriorating soil structure.

Moore say the deteriorated structure was identified by the contractors during the on-going four-lane road construction.

Moore says the decision to work on the structure was made after a thorough survey was conducted.

“If we would have left it and the conditional deteriorated further, we would have been in there for a much longer period of time and taken up far more material. So it just needed to be replaced, we could have left it for another two years and have a bumpy ride and the extent of repair necessary would have been even greater.”

The maintenance currently undertaken is under the Suva Arterial Road Upgrade Project known as SARUP 1 which will now be completed next month.
