The government is introducing measures to have better control of projects and capital works.
According to Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, previous procedures were cumbersome and did not allow a certain degree of control on major investments.
“The whole idea again is to save money, is to get a better product that’s being delivered through major capital works, the other reason is that we get a better quality of the building.”
Sayed-Khaiyum says currently projects are given to an architectural firm which then selects different service providers, rather than the government having a direct relationship with each service provider.
He says they also encourage local businesses to be part of the panel.
The preferred list of consultants is expected to maintain standards….as previously there were little background checks on architectural firms that were awarded government projects.
