There’s a need for the Public Rental Board to look at all avenues – including constructing more rental units – due to the demand in more Fijians in need of homes.

PRB’s Chief Executive Patrick Veu says they’re currently in discussion with the Housing Authority in an effort to assist these tenants.

Veu says for now his officers are having one-on-one discussions with some tenants.

“We have written to them and we also continue to tell them during estate meeting and they have accepted it well. The idea that they need to move on and own property rather than continue to rent with us.”

Over one thousand pending applications are still with the PRB and efforts are being made to try and move tenants earning above $25,000 to home ownership.
