It was a proud moment for 56-year-old Satendra Prakash of Batanikama, Labasa as he was sworn in as a Justice of Peace today.
Prakash has been selling vegetables at the Labasa Market for 20 years now and says he will now be able to serve his people.
He says there are no JP’s in his area and people have to travel to town, to look for JP’s and get their documents signed.
“At present, I have seen that people in my village have to travel far distance to find JP’s so I feel good being appointed as a JP, I have access to them, I will be available anytime convenient to them since I am a market vendor.”
He says he has been doing community work during religious gatherings, school events and charity work in his area.
He says he is ready for the challenges in his new role and will carry out his duties to the best of his abilities.
