April 3, 2012 7:36 pm

Fiji Electricity Authority engineers will work round the clock to restore normal power supply to whole of Viti Levu by next week.

FEA Chief Executive Hasmukh Patel says they can now get access to the damaged tower in Laselevu with repair works expected to start this morning.

He says they have worked out a plan on how to erect a temporary structure to get the line going.

For the Western division he says it depends on how quickly people can get their contractors to check the installations.

“What are the major problems in the Western Division especially in Nadi and certain areas of Ba, we had the power there, but the customers because their installation was submerged under the water, they need to get their electrical contractors to check their installation. Otherwise in many parts we got the power supply is available but our customers are not able to take power. So we are urging our customers to get their installation checked so that FEA can get the power supply back there.”

Patel has clarified that power outages should not affect water supply as normal power is supplied to pumping stations.

Meanwhile power rationing will continue and Patel says they have also got a good response from business houses.
