Pounding kava on road is illegal

December 11, 2012 4:00 am

Pounding kava on the road is illegal says Land Transport Authority Chief Executive Officer Naisa Tuinaceva.

Tuinaceva says they are aware people are using the road to pound kava because of its hard surface but it should be clear that that is not right and will not be tolerated.

He says this seems to be a practise in villages, settlements and even in residential places in the urban areas.

“If they are going to be reported to us, yes there is a law, we are the enforcer we’ll go down and see them but let’s not reach that stage, lets do the right thing at the first stage by doing what is right.”

He says roads have been damaged through this and increase the burden on Government in repairing it.

Tuinaceva says this is something they going to keep a watch on as we now go through festive season where there will be a lot of gathering and drinking kava.
