Each year, the Fiji Museum organises various programs to mark Girmit Day.

And, this year the museum hopes to impart pottery making to the younger generation.

Fiji Museums – Marketing HOD – Prakashni Sharma says pottery making has a lot of significance to Fiji’s culture and history which most children are unaware of.

“We have decided for the kids to do a pottery like cooking pots which our ancestors had in the past. That will remind the children that our past is what we are today. We have about 24 kids who will take part in pottery making with our potter Amelia.”

Girmit Day will be marked on the 14th of this month.
