Post mortem on Niumataiwalu to be conducted

Police confirm that the post mortem on the late Police Officer, 24-year-old Suita Niumataiwalu will be conducted today.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro also notes that the suspect in custody has now been moved to Lautoka Police Station from Ba Police Station.

On Monday, the late Niumataiwalu attended to a report of a 25-year-old suspect allegedly involved in a theft who had been seen on the top of a roof of a building in Lautoka city.

Niumataiwalu along with other Police officers were deployed to pursue the suspect.

While apprehending the suspect, Niumataiwalu was allegedly stabbed with a kitchen knife several times.

He was rushed to Lautoka Hospital where he died at 2am on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the suspect in the case had only earlier in the day prior to the alleged stabbing been bailed on a separate case of theft and has three criminal cases pending at the Savusavu Magistrates Court.

The investigation continues.
