Ports and Navy continue patrol

November 27, 2015 7:05 pm

The Fiji Navy is working with the Fiji Ports Authority to patrol the area where the MV Suilven sank earlier this week on Tuesday.

A general advisory has been issued for mariners to steer clear of the area where the sunken vessel lies – although entry into the harbour is unrestricted.

Fiji Navy Commander Captain John Fox says people have been abiding by this.

“During the day it is done by Ports Authority. They have a CCTV camera that has a long range and they can actually see from the Port’s terminal. During the night it is usually done by us. Government Shipping has been doing it for the last few days and we will do it for the rest of the weekend.”

The MV Suilven, which belongs to Venu Shipping, went down on Tuesday afternoon but thirty-four people on board were rescued.
