Port workers get another bonus payment

October 16, 2018 4:35 am

A massive $450,000 has been paid out as bonus to around four hundred employees of the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited in Suva today.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this was another great achievement for the company.

Sayed-Khaiyum says last year, the port had received two rounds of bonuses and this was a far cry from what it used to be before.

He says when they called for a public private partnership for the organisation, they had thought about the long term.

“There’s enormous potential that’s there for us to create jobs and also have economic prosperity. So that’s what we’re focused towards and that’s what we need to do. And that’s what you need to think about. So our ability to be able to through this organization pay you the bonus, is the fact that you’ve partnered with this new way of thinking. And I can tell you if we contribute to modernize this company – we’re strategic about it – the economic and financial benefits that you will individually get and we as a country get will be enormous.”

Fiji Ports Chief Executive, Hasthika Dela says generally the practice is that employees needed to complete one year in the company to be eligible for a bonus but this has been reduced to six months.

Meanwhile, the 2017 bonus also came with individual performances bonus.
