One of the largest meat suppliers in the country has confirmed there is a shortage of pork, in particular bacon, this Christmas season.
Wahleys Butchery Limited operations manager Gregory Harm Nam says he has had to turn customers away.
“At the moment there is a bit of a shortage in market for Pork because it’s the festive season and there’s a lot of functions going on and the hotels are busy too so the demand is quite great at this time.”
Leylands Butchery General Manager Chris Yee says he has had to bringin pork from overseas.
“To meet up the demand for Christmas what we have done is brought in some pork from overseas just to make sure that everyone has pork on the menu this festive season.”
However one meat that isn’t in shortage at the moment is Chicken.
Suppliers of Crest Chicken Goodman Fielder confirm they are well stocked and prepared for the festive season.
