Some Social Democratic Liberal Party MP’s claim to have ceased their fortnightly deduction to the party while others have reduced their deduction amount.

A SODELPA MP told FBC News the deduction is to help pay wages for employees at the Head Quarters as well as other office expenses.

The MP says the party’s General Secretary Emele Duituturaga informed the caucus last Friday that the party HQ is facing financial difficulties.

The MP also stated that after the party suspension they have not been able to obtain any monthly financial reports as promised, and have therefore stopped making deductions to the HQ account.

The SODELPA MP says most of them were deducting $320 each every fortnight.

They have also queried parliamentary funds which some members allege has been used outside its intended purpose.

It’s believed the MP’s on Friday sought clarification on the status of their deduction.

FBC News has also been informed that MP’s have asked Duituturaga to look into cost-cutting measures such as not hosting meetings at expensive venues.

The SODELPA MPs claims the Party General Secretary has assured them that they will look into reducing staff and closing office earlier before Christmas.

Attempts to get comments from Duituturaga have been unsuccessful.
