Politics of fear is real: Vuniwaqa

November 22, 2019 6:31 am

Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa shared her thoughts in parliament on the Facebook post made by Opposition MP Lenora Qereqeretabua in September.

Vuniwaqa while highlighting that politics of fear is real said the comments and curse made her paranoid as a parent.

She says the most fearful thing was that the curse came from a member of parliament for children who did not sign up to be used as political footballs.

“I speak as a mother whose children have been cursed by a leader of this nation by virtue of her membership of this August house. As a mother, I have tried as much as I could to shield my children from the trappings of politics, to give them an upbringing that any parent would want for their children.”

The Minister has called on MP’s to be responsible as they are bound by a common oath to obey, uphold and maintain the same constitution.

Vuniwaqa says that Opposition Members never consider the impact of their speeches on Fijians.

“So in politics of fear rather than preach the proven power of unity. Elements we chose to undermine our prosperity rather than support Fiji’s longs term economic growth and sustainability.”

The Minister for Women spoke in support of the President’s address in Parliament.

She adds that the President’s speech acknowledged the challenges that we face as a nation and calling on a united Fiji.
