The Electoral Commission is in charge of the election process says chair Suresh Chandra.

Chandra says he is saddened by the Carte Blanc allegation made by politicians.

He says their statement demonstrates that they have no regard for the process.

Politicians from six political parties yesterday made allegations of vote rigging in the 2014 election and also made claims that the Fijian Election Office is bias.

They also claimed that the upcoming election will not be free and fair.

“This is indeed a pathetic attempt to undermine an election that has not happened yet. Some bursts within the press conference only lead to indicate feeble attempts by those individuals to prejudice the upcoming election.”

Chandra also says in many circumstances when they have called a meeting with party senior officials – they did not turn up.

“If they do not turn up, we will meet with those other parties who do turn up. Except Unity Fiji, the others from today’s (yesterday) press conference did not show up at the last meeting. It appears that they seem not properly briefed.”

Chandra says they have always replied to all letter received from political parties.

He says it is incorrect for the parties to say they did not receive responses when they do not like the contents of the Commissions response.
