Finance Permanent Secretary, Filimone Waqabaca, says policy reforms over the last 8 years have been the cornerstone of the consistent economic growth.

Attending the Special Budget Forum this morning, Waqabaca says today’s stakeholder discussions will focus beyond the 2015 national budget.

“Where do we want to take Fiji and it’s a modern Fiji that we want to build and an inclusive Fiji that we want to have, it’s a Fiji where want to develop the various sectors that currently exist and work towards maybe new sectors that we can tap into and what is challenging us, to reach the growth that we know we have the potential to achieve.”

Waqabaca adds that for any economic growth, one of the key development areas is Infrastructure and this will continue to receive government backing.

“As you know investors would like to go to a country where there is sufficient institutions and likewise infrastructures because it helps in the reduction of costs of doing business and that is why this government in the past 8 years and I think is now moving forward and I think will continue to focus on infrastructure development.”

The budget forum is holding discussions with various stakeholders from the private, public and non-state actor sectors.
