Policy issues for seasonal workers discussed by leaders

Policy issues relating to the Seasonal Workers Program was part of the discussions amongst New Zealand and Australian Senior government officials, Political leaders, employers and the delegation headed by Minister for Employment, Jone Usamate.

Usamate says the meeting that was conducted in Canberra and Wellington was a successful one.

“One of our objectives is to see how we can increase the number of our people that can go through to New Zealand and Australia and also how we can make sure that they are looked after when they go there .Some of them have concerns, those concerns are then discussed with the government officials and also with the employers so it was a successful trip.”

Meanwhile, the minister says the two countries are facing difficulties in finding people to work in the horticulture and agriculture fields.
